Royals and Relatives Gather to Support Kate Middleton at Her Special Christmas Carol Event
Kate Middleton was in the holiday spirit as she arrived at Westminster Abbey for her special Christmas concert, supported by a flock of her royal relatives. Dressed in a vivid red Catherine Walker dress, that royal fans noticed was a festive version of the black coat she donned for Prince Philip’s funeral, she and Prince William were all smiles as they led the event.
The Royal Carols: Together At Christmas community carol service, supported by The Royal Foundation, paid tribute to frontline workers and key organizations across the UK that have stood up for their communities during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Writing about the concert on Instagram, Kate said: “What a special evening, seeing so many familiar faces, as well as meeting inspirational people who have gone the extra mile for their community in recent times. Across the country, these organizations and unsung heroes have pulled together and through acts of kindness helped others in the face of extraordinary challenges.”
A first-of-its-kind royal event, the concert was spearheaded and hosted by Kate in one of her most high-profile Christmas projects yet.
Not only is the event itself a special royal first, it will also be televised in the UK on Christmas Eve. This makes it one of Kate’s few TV appearances since joining the royal family 10 years ago. Though her and William’s three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — weren’t in attendance, a number of other key royals turned out to show their support for Kate. Princess Eugenie arrived in a green cape coat and tall black boots. While her sister, Princess Beatrice rugged up in a chic camel coat as she headed into the Abbey hand-in-hand with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
Zara and Mike Tindall also attended the concert dressed in complimentary navy blue ensembles, while Sophie, Countess of Wessex arrived solo in white trousers, a green blouse and red coat. It wasn’t just royals who showed up to support Kate either — her own family also made appearances on the big night.
Carole and Michael Middleton stepped out to support their daughter, with Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton in tow. Newlywed James Middleton also attended with his new wife Alizée Thevenet on his arm, the French financial analyst dressed in a chic houndstooth suit.
Other attendees included people that Kate and William have met through their charity projects and other work, as well as faith leaders, people from vulnerable groups, and more. All of the special guests were treated to a night of festivities and song as Kate led the carol concert, which featured performances from artists like Ellie Goulding, Leona Lewis, and the Westminster Abbey choir.
William also had a special role on the night, delivering a reading about the birth of Jesus Christ from the Bible during the service. The royal family often go all-out for Christmas, both in their own homes and through their charity and other work. Each year they share festive holiday cards, attend special Christmas events and gather together at the Queen’s Sandringham estate for the holidays.
