Meghan Markle has been keeping busy. She was recently the subject of a major profile in the September issue of The Cut, New York Magazine’s fashion publication, timed to the release of her new podcast Archetypes. She and Prince Harry have also had a very full schedule of travel and events, including their return to the UK to attend the One Young World Summit in Manchester on Monday, September 5.

Meghan has long been dedicated to working with young people and has been a counselor with One Young World, an organization focused on “empowering and developing young leaders to build a fair, sustainable future for all,” since 2014. She’s described One Young World as “the best think tank imaginable.”

Wearing an all-red outfit, Meghan looked bold and glamorous as ever at Monday’s event. She began her speech — her first in the UK since she and Harry made their final appearance as royals there in March 2020 — by saying, “It is very nice to be back.” She continued with powerful words for the charity event’s group of young leaders: “You are the future. But I would like to add to that that you are also the present. You are the ones driving the positive and necessary change needed across the globe now in this very moment. And for that, I’m so grateful to be in your company today.”

Meghan’s speech centered on change, and it possessed an urgency not yet seen from the Duchess. In her interview with The Cut, she offered advice to girls and women around the world.

“You have the power within you to create a life greater than any fairy tale you’ve ever read,” she said. “I don’t mean that in terms of ‘You could marry a prince one day.’ I mean you can find love. You can find happiness. You can be up against what could feel like the greatest obstacle and then you can find happiness again.”

Meghan urged listeners to embrace the moment and work to create a better life, both personally and professionally. Her emotional plea resounded with significance for those inside and outside the rarefied world of the royals.
