Beach Hack: How to Get Rid of Sand Before It Gets All Over Your Car

Tags:

Trips to the beach are fun, but the sandy mess that inevitably ends up in your car? Not so much. Luckily, there’s a clever hack that will get rid of sand and save your vehicle from turning into its own island.

Whether you’re squeezing in a few more beach days before the weather cools down or live in area where you can enjoy sandy waterfronts year-round, adding baby powder to your bag before you head out will be a lifesaver. One mom recently shared this as her summer “mommy hack” on social media to show just how well the simple trick works.

Take a look:

As she points out, sprinkling a little powder on sandy toes and legs will not only magically makes it disappear, but also leaves you or your little ones smelling fresh! And it’s way easier than lugging a bucket to fill with water and rinse off with before climbing back into the car after spending the day at the beach.

For those wondering if using baby powder is safe after recent headlines linked talcum-based products to health concerns, the American Cancer Society claims that that it is “not clear if consumer products containing talcum powder increase cancer risk.” They cite “mixed results” from studies, but warn “there is some suggestion of a possible increase in ovarian cancer risk.” These worries led Johnson & Johnson to pull all talcum-based products from shelves in the US and Canada. They still provide cornstarch-based options instead, which should be safe for all to use.

If you’re not comfortable using baby powder products to get rid of sand, you can grab plain cornstarch all on its own to get the job done! It’s also a better option for anyone who isn’t a fan of the baby powder aroma since it has a much milder scent.

Whichever way you go, you’ll be able to enjoy your next day at the beach without bringing it back home with you!
