Valerie Bertinelli’s At-Home Haircut Did Not Turn Out As Planned — And We Can All Relate

It turned into something nostalgic.

Valerie Bertinelli shared a very real (and very relatable) moment with her followers on Instagram this week, and it was all about going back to her “roots” — literally.

On Wednesday, the 62-year-old actor, author, and chef posted a video to the social platform that she titled “Welp 🤷🏻‍♀️.” It was a confession: Bertinelli said she had been planning to grow her bangs out. Then, she started scrolling through TikTok videos, and came across one where a woman was getting a “wolf cut.” “It looked really cute — that shaggy thing, all the way down,” she explained.

For those who don’t know, the trendy wolf cut is a mix of a shag cut and a mullet. It’s characterized by full bangs or curtain bangs, along with face-framing, choppy layers on the sides. The short layers continue around the back, standing out against the long bottom layer.

The style is designed to give the hair lots of movement, volume, and texture — no wonder Bertinelli wanted to try it. (Plus, how cute is it for “Wolfie’s mom” to have a wolf cut?) “I said, ‘I’m gonna try that,'” she explains in her Instagram video. “‘Screw it! I’ll give myself bangs again.'”

Bertinelli went for it. She said that she pulled all of her face-framing locks to the front and cut them into bangs and layers. Then, she checked out her work…and realized what she’d created.

“This is not a wolf cut,” she said, looking at her reflection on her phone. “This is a Barbara Cooper.” (Check it out in the post below.)

Who could forget that iconic Barbara Cooper ‘do? Bertinelli got her start playing Barbara on “One Day At a Time,” so we can’t help but smile when we think about this vintage cut — even if Bertinelli hadn’t planned to style her hair like that again. Ultimately, this confession will ring true for a lot of women. Who hasn’t pulled out the shears and done some at-home styling to save cash?

So, should we all try out the Barbara Cooper the next time we’re at the salon or feeling impulsive with the scissors? For what it’s worth, Bertinelli’s at-home styling looks pretty darn good, even if it’s not what she intended.
