Valerie Bertinelli Is Having a Proud Mom Moment
Last night’s Grammy’s saw Valerie Bertinelli in her most prized role: that of proud mom. Wolfie Van Halen, her son with late husband Eddie Van Halen, received a Best Rock Song nomination, and he asked his mom to attend the annual awards ceremony with him.
A Rock ‘n’ Roll Legacy
The nominated song, entitled ‘Distance’, is by Wolfie’s one-man band, Mammoth WVH. In it, Wolfie pays homage to his father, who died in 2020 at age 65 after a long battle with lung cancer. Holding back tears, Bertinelli spoke to PEOPLE magazine about how proud Wolfie’s dad would have been, saying, “There’s only one other person that would be prouder than me. And that’s pretty impossible, but it would be Ed.”
A Winning Perspective
Though Wolfie’s song lost to Foo Fighters’ Making a Fire, Bertinelli’s pride was not diminished. A talented actress who’s seen all sides of showbiz, she knows just how tough having your talents acknowledged can be. She gushed that Wolfie has “turned into such an amazing young man. And talented! He’s nominated for songwriting, which is the hardest thing about being a musician.”
A Family Affair
We hope Bertinelli feels just as proud of her own recent accomplishments, which include her publishing her memoir, Enough Already: Learning to Love the Way I Am Today (Buy from Amazon, $16.29). In it, the actress, TV star, and cookbook author shares the ways in which she practices self love, and the impact it’s had on her life. In a recent interview with FOX News, Bertinelli said that she knew as she wrote that she was sharing “raw” and “vulnerable” things. She added, though, that accepting and loving herself as she is requires her to be “honest and real.”
Of all the terrific roles she’s had in life, Bertinelli embodied her best one last night as proud mom to a rising star.
