The List of This Year’s Best Diets Has Been Released

Tags:

If you’re looking for the best diets to try in the new year, look no further than the latest master list compiled by U.S. News and World Report. Evaluated and ranked by a panel of health experts, this helpful guide to 40 popular diets can give you a clearer idea about the best choice for your healthy eating resolution — no matter what day of the year you decide to start it.

The best diet overall this year is (drumroll, please…) a tie! Yes, that’s right. The government-endorsed DASH diet and the famous Mediterranean diet tied for the top spot. With the DASH diet’s goal to prevent and lower high blood pressure and the Mediterranean diet’s aims to aid with weight loss, heart and brain health, cancer prevention, and diabetes prevention and control, we’re not shocked that they ended up so high on the list.

That said, it’s worth remembering that the “best diet” means different things for different people. After all, some of us have weight-loss goals that we’re trying to reach. If that’s the case for you, Weight Watchers came out on top for the best weight-loss diet. Other people are focused on managing or preventing diabetes, and the Mediterranean diet took home the grand prize for that category. Yet others are passionate about focusing on improving heart health. If that sounds like you, DASH was the big winner in that round.

Now, you’re probably wondering what diet was ranked last on the “best diets overall” list. And many were surprised to learn that it was the keto diet, which focuses on weight loss through fat-burning by slashing the carbs you eat and filling up on fats instead. Huh! Who would’ve thought?

You can check out the entire best diets list on U.S. News and World Report and see all the detailed descriptions, pros, and cons for each one for yourself. Which one would you be most interested in trying out in the new year?
