We’d believe you if you told us Reese Witherspoon was 33 instead of 43 — her skin is just so radiant and youthful! It turns out her eternal glow isn’t simply a result of fancy facials or procedures, but an easy nighttime routine anyone can follow.

In an interview with Allure, Reese opened up about her beauty regimen and the products that are front and center on her vanity. “I’m very regimented about washing my face at night,” she said. “I wear a lot of makeup for work, so I have a tendency to break out around my chin and nose if I don’t get it all off.” She also uses Elizabeth Arden retinol capsules ($84 for 60 capsules, Ulta or $48 for 30 capsules, Elizabeth Arden), which are filled with a serum you apply to your face every night before bed. “I look more awake in the morning,” she says. “They also even out the redness in my skin so I don’t have to wear as much foundation.”

Retinol is a topical version of vitamin A that increases the rate of cell turnover. This allows the body to slough away old skin cells, giving the face a more youthful appearance. Another big benefit of retinol is its ability to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. No wonder the beauty community is obsessed.

Reese also revealed she takes prenatal vitamins even though she’s not pregnant. “It makes my hair look better,” she explains. Unlike the retinol, we may not advice following her lead on this one. Doctors have warned against taking prenatal vitamins long-term when you’re not pregnant or trying, as it can cause an excess of certain nutrients in the body. For example, iron is common in pre-natal vitamins, but too much iron can lead to constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting.

Another step in Reese’s nighttime routine we can get behind, is her bath before bed. “I’ve been taking a bath every night for the past four years,” she said. “It’s changed the way I sleep and the way I feel when I wake up — takes away all aches and pains. I also read so many books in the bath. They’re the antidote to self-involvement. Escaping to a different world and thinking about other people’s realities is really therapeutic for me.”
