After a Model Photographed a Naked, Less-Fit Gym-Goer, Boastful ‘Fat’ Woman Gives Eye-Opening Retort

When Dani Mathers took a photo of a naked, overweight member of her gym, wrote a degrading caption, and sent it out on Snapchat, the Playboy model probably thought that was the end of that–except maybe for a few LOL replies from her followers. But her mean girl act horrified everyone, with totally good reason.

Nicole Henry, a mom of two was also appalled by the story and it got her thinking of the way she’s judged by others solely by her appearance. Henry, who lives in Connecticut, then wrote: “Now, before I continue, let me mention that I know I am fat and so when I use that adjective I am doing it in a matter-of-fact way. Anyone who looks at me can tell I’m not hiding a six pack under my shirt.”

But Henry is so proud by what her body can do that she went out, bought a two-piece bathing suit, took a selfie, and then posted it with a list of the things her “fat” body has accomplished. “Yes, my body has rolls, and stretch marks, but my body is so much more than that,” she writes. “This body may be fat, but it has volunteered at the local Special Olympics swim meet for 15 years. This body may be fat, but it has volunteered at the local children’s hospital and worked in many daycare centers. This body may be fat, but it carried my grandmother when she was too weak to walk.” Henry’s body has gotten degrees, taught kindergarten, skated in roller derbies, and done a host of things she’s proud to mention.

She continues, “I debated doing this, but while I was in the store looking for a bathing suit to wear I heard a little girl tell her mom how badly she wanted to lose weight. I want people to know that it’s ok to be fat and happy.”

She finished it off with a hashtag about body image that we LOVE: #Thisbodymaybefatbut. You can read her awesome post here–then click through more photos of women who are proud of what their bodies can do in the gallery below.
