Sometimes life just gets in the way. You meant to read that book, but there just wasn’t time. And you were going to bake a fresh cake for a friend’s birthday, but something came up at home. Don’t sweat it; you can still add a personal touch to a store-bought cake with this easy trick.
While you’re at the supermarket, pick up some chocolate candy you know the birthday boy or girl loves along with a cake from the bakery. By hollowing out parts of the cake, you can “stuff” it with bright and colorful candy, making a generic cake anything but. All you need is stencils of the letters, numbers, or shapes you want on the cake--cookie cutters would also work for this--toothpicks, a knife, a spoon, and plenty of candy. The blogger behind this genius idea suggests also having store-bought piping icing on hand to trace the letters or numbers on the cake for a clean, polished appearance; you can find it in a range of colors in the baking aisle of most grocery stores. The final product is personally tailored to them in just 10 minutes of your time.
