When Amanda Bernier was diagnosed with ALS just two weeks after she found out she was expecting a child, she faced many devastating possibilities. One was that her baby wouldn't survive the pregnancy as the disease progressed. Another was that Amanda might not live through her own pregnancy. Yet another was that they would both perish.
Thankfully, they both made it, and baby Arabella was born in the fall of 2014.

The loving new mom, who ended up bed-bound and unable to move much due to ALS, was still not sure she'd make it to see her baby's first birthday. But that was her goal, and amazingly, she succeeded!
So to celebrate the precious time they've spent together and the time they still have left, Amanda wanted to do something special for her daughter. She wanted to breastfeed her. Miraculously, with the assistance of her medical team, she was able to. She posted a photo of the incredible endeavor, and it has quickly gone viral.

"I hope Arabella will know how much I love her, and that she showed love to me. I would like for someone to tell her how we defied the obstacles we overcame to breastfeed, and what a special time we shared between us," Amanda said.
It's a beautiful reminder of the special bond between mother and child, regardless of outside circumstances. We're sure that the touching photos and dedications are memories that Arabella will recall fondly and lovingly in the years to come.
