Prince Charles Has Tested Positive For Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Prince Charles, Queen Elizabeth’s eldest son and heir to the British throne, has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).

According to the Associated Press, a statement from Clarence House (the prince’s residence) claims he is only displaying “mild symptoms” and otherwise “remains in good health.”

Take a look at the full statement below:

“The Prince of Wales has tested positive for Coronavirus. He has been displaying mild symptoms but otherwise remains in good health and has been working from home throughout the last few days as usual. The Duchess of Cornwall has also been tested but does not have the virus. In accordance with Government and medical advice, the Prince and the Duchess are now self-isolating at home in Scotland. The tests were carried out by the [National Health Service] in Aberdeenshire where they met the criteria required for testing.”

The 71-year-old prince is also reportedly in good spirits despite his diagnosis. He isn’t confined to his bed, which is a good sign he’ll be able to beat the illness. His wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, 72, has also been tested and does not have the virus. The royal pair are currently self-isolating at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

The official statement added, “It is not possible to ascertain from whom the Prince caught the virus owing to the high number of engagements he carried out in his public role during recent weeks.”

Charles’ last public appearance was at a benefit dinner for the Australian bush fires on March 12, but he had been keeping private meetings in the days leading up to his diagnosis. His mother, Elizabeth, was also at the benefit dinner, but an update from Buckingham Palace confirms that she only saw him “briefly” at the event and “remains in good health.” The 93-year-old monarch and her 98-year-old husband, Prince Philip, are at a higher risk of serious symptoms due to their age, but have been safely tucked away in their Windsor Castle since Thursday last week.

This news comes on the heels of a Buckingham Palace aide who also tested positive for the virus, but we’re glad Elizabeth seems to have avoided contracting it herself. Despite her isolation, the queen is reportedly set to film a special announcement regarding the global spread of COVID-19 which will air sometime in the next few weeks.

In the meantime, we certainly hope Prince Charles keeps up his good spirits and has a speedy recovery!
