Carrot Oil Can Reverse Signs of Hair Loss and Soothe Your Perpetually Dry Scalp

Tags:

As we age, we all tend to see signs of hair loss here and there. But before you start buying expensive products or trying out prescription medications, you may first want to try a natural remedy. One that’s risen in popular in recent years? Say hello to carrot oil.

What is carrot oil?

Carrot oil comes in many different forms, but it usually includes the essential oils that come from carrots. The product shouldn’t be confused with carrot seed oil, however, which comes from a completely different plant called a wild carrot and is known for its anti-aging and anti-inflammation properties. (I know, it’s a little confusing!)

What are the carrot oil benefits?

Carrot oil is loaded with vitamin A, vitamin E, and beta carotene, which are all known to promote hair growth. It’s also reported to thicken the hair shaft and help hair follicles grow stronger so that they aren’t damaged as easily over time. There’s additional speculation that many of the nutrients in carrots like potassium may help with blood circulation in the scalp and increase your rate of hair growth in the process.

Luckily, it’s also relatively mild as far as oils go, so there aren’t many serious side effects associated with using it as a hair treatment.

How should you apply carrot oil?

When it comes to using carrot oil, there are two paths you can take: the store-bought route or the DIY route. There are quite a few store-bought options like Hollywood Beauty Carrot Oil (Buy on Amazon, $13.99). Usually you just massage a small amount into your scalp and leave it in your hair, but some may recommend using it as a rinse before showering.

If you want to go the DIY route, you can mix together your own concoction. Simply combine one large grated carrot with any amount of olive oil of your choosing, and store it in a jar in a dark place for roughly one week. Once the liquid has turned orange, take it out, strain it to catch the remaining pieces of carrot, and massage it into your hair. Leave the mixture on for 30 minutes before shampooing and conditioning your hair.

And as with any topical substance, make sure you test a small sample on your wrist for a day or two before you put it all over your scalp. The last thing you want is an allergic reaction on your quest for stronger, healthier hair!
