3 Tricks for Fuller Brows and Longer Lashes That Will Give You a Natural, Beautiful Look

Achieve a natural look in no time.

We love how lush brows and long lashes help frame and brighten our eyes, drawing attention to them and making them pop! But as we age, our brows and lashes become thinner, shorter and grayer — resulting in a lack of oomph that leaves us looking older than we are. To get back that natural appearance, check out these easy tricks for thickening those hairs and achieving a youthful you now and later.

Balding brows? Apply palmetto oil.

Stress, aging, and over-plucking all contribute to brow hair fallout, says brow expert Dani Kimiko Vincent. The easy solution? Apply a saw palmetto oil — like Nature’s Answer Saw Palmetto Extract (Buy from Amazon, $12.74) — onto brows twice a day. Phytosterols in the oil have been shown to improve hair density by 33 percent in three months, thickening brow hairs to “fill in” bald spots.

If you need a fast fix in the meantime, fill in brows using a kit that comes with stencils and a stamp-on tinted “filler.” Just hold the stencil over the brow, then stamp on the hair-matching color! One we like: Madluvv Brow Stamp Kit (Buy from Madluvv, $39).

Graying brows? Try an eyebrow dye.

Pesky grays are just as likely to pop up in our brows as they are on our head. Conceal them with a gentle eyebrow dye, like Godefroy Instant Eyebrow Tint (Buy from iHerb, $14.28) that’s one shade deeper than your hair’s hue. The nontoxic formula is perfect for use near the delicate eye area and lasts six weeks!

Need an even quicker solution? A touch-up wand, like Mineral Fusion Gray Root Concealer covers gray roots on the head, but can also be used on brow hairs in a pinch! Bonus: It’s made with argan oil. The fatty acids in argan oil soften grays’ coarse cuticles so color better takes to (and disguises) silvers.

Short, sparse lashes? Use castor oil.

Our skin produces fewer natural oils as we get older, causing lashes to become weak and dehydrated, so they’re prone to breaking and shedding. What can help: castor oil. Its vitamin E moisturizes lashes to prevent breakage and helps hairs complete their growth cycle, and its ricinoleic acid increases blood flow to spur new growth within 30 days.

To apply, simply coat a clean spoolie with a serum made of castor oil, like Sky Organics Castor Oil Eyelash Serum (Buy from Amazon, $9.99) and sweep onto lashes before bed nightly.

Looking for a fast answer? Instead of coating short lashes with thick layers of dark color, which can clump or flake, try a “tubing” mascara. The formula is made of flexible polymers that wrap around each individual lash to build natural-looking length and volume, says Vincent. “Plus, since tubing mascaras simply slip off with warm water without any harsh rubbing, they’re gentler on delicate lashes than other mascaras.” One we like: Essence Bye Bye Panda Eyes! Mascara (Buy from Ulta, $4.99).
