Awards season is in full swing — and the Screen Actors Guild Awards continue to bring out the biggest names in Hollywood. In what is being dubbed the year of the woman, the nominees pulled out all the stops on the SAG red carpet, from the first-ever host Kristen Bell to Halle Berry.
After the much-needed blackout at the Golden Globes, color (fashion-wise) was back on the red carpet — but the message was still the same at the awards show. "I think it’s just in response to... conversations changing about the industry," Kristen told Kristen told ABC of being the first female host of the show. "Maybe having a female host it is a little bit of a response to, or the tip of the hat, to that."
Before the show, Kristen Bell said she'd maintain her quirky personality on the big night. "I’m going to be as awkward and as weird as possible, and hopefully that will make someone smile," she added. "We're going to have a lot of fun."
All eyes were on the stars of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, which led the nominees with four nominations, but Lady Bird came in a close second with three nominations. On the TV side, Big Little Lies and Stranger Things both scored four nods. Unlike most awards shows, the SAG Awards are focused on the ensemble or the "collaborative art" of films — rather than individual actors.
It was a fast-moving experience, with 13 awards being handed out over the two-hour show, including the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award, which was awarded to Morgan Freeman — who last won a SAG award for his role in Million Dollar Baby. This year, viewers also saw a "women's power table" at the show, with attendees such as Kate Hudson, Reese Witherspoon, and Nicole Kidman sitting front and center.
