Bayer Recalls Alka-Seltzer Plus Products Due to Risk of Allergic Reaction

Tags:

If you bought any Alka-Seltzer Plus meds recently, take a close look at your package before you open it. Bayer has issued a voluntary recall on some Alka-Seltzer Plus products for a truly terrifying reason — the possibility of an allergic reaction or anaphylaxis.

The Alka-Seltzer products in question are being removed from the shelves because the ingredients on the front sticker of the cartons might not match the actual products inside, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This might lead people to consume a product to which they may have an allergy or anaphylactic reaction; other folks could potentially ingest a product that they can’t have due to another medical condition. In short, the possibility of some serious health consequences is on the table, so it’s important to check your medicine cabinet ASAP. Fortunately, no reports of adverse reactions have been received so far.

Specifically, this recall affects Alka-Seltzer Plus products sold in the United States at a variety of stores — Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, Kroger, Dillons Food Stores, Fred Meyer, Fry’s Food Stores, Ralphs, King Soopers, and Smith’s Food and Drug — after February 9, 2018. The affected items can be identified by checking the Bayer logo on the lower left corner of the front of the carton. If the logo has an orange or green background — as shown in the sample images below — the product is included in the recall.

If you purchased these Alka-Seltzer Plus Products, the FDA is urging you not to consume them and instead contact Bayer at 1-800-986-0369 for instructions about how to receive a refund. But even if you didn’t buy one of the recalled products, it’s worth spreading the word about this recall to anyone who you think might have purchased them. You never know — you could potentially save someone’s life.
