Buttery, flaky, and the perfect pairing for tea, scones may be a delightful treat, but they’re much easier bought than made. Between cutting in the cold butter and the sticky dough that never seems to come off your hands, whipping up a batch can seem like an exercise in frustration.
No more. This quick and beyond simple technique demonstrated by Monique Bowley of Australia’s Greatest Bake Off will take you mere minutes and calls for only three ingredients: self-raising flour, cream, and a can of lemonade. But the lemonade isn’t the only curve ball here; instead of using a wooden spoon to mix the ingredients, you should use a knife--stay with us. Though Bowley doesn't explain why the knife is necessary, she asks that we trust her. And after seeing the divine texture of her finished product, we're more than happy to skip the questions. Follow the instructions to a T and you’ll be rewarded with a warm, pillowy companion for your earl grey. Just don’t forget the jam and clotted cream.
