This superfood is packed with lignans (naturally occurring plant estrogens) that target the midlife hormonal flux that causes belly fat to creep on, creating that dreaded menopot. Proof of these seeds' slimming power: In a recent animal study, mice that were fed a lignan-enriched diet for four weeks ended up with 32 percent less abdominal fat than their “no lignan” counterparts.
Bonus: Flaxseeds also ease hot flashes. In one study, when women added flaxseed to their diet, the frequency of their flashes dropped by 50 percent within six weeks. The study-proven dose: 2 Tbs. twice daily.
Here’s the yummy recipe:
1* kiwifruit, *peeled and chopped
1* banana, *peeled, chopped and frozen
1 cup** frozen strawberries**
2 containers (6 oz. each)** nonfat strawberry yogurt**
1 cup** milk**
2 Tbs.** flaxseed meal, **like Bob’s Red Mill
In blender, puree all ingredients until smooth. Pour into glasses. Garnish with kiwi.
