It's not often that the art world makes news, but it sure did today, when reports about the sale of a photo of a potato hit the Internet.
It turns out that the portrait of the organic spud, taken by Irish photographer Kevin Abosch, sold for over a million dollars. The buyer: an unnamed European businessman. He happened to be visiting Abosch and saw the picture on the wall. “We had two glasses of wine and he said, ‘I really like that’. Two more glasses of wine and he said: ‘I really want that,’" Abosch told a British newspaper.
We're gobsmacked, as they'd say in the U.K.
