Penney, from West Virginia, was buying some items after work, when the cashier glanced at her name tag and asked what she did at the nursing facility. When Penney replied she was a nurse, the cashier seemed shocked that the hospital didn't have a dress code. She even turned to the customer behind Penney to ask what the woman thought of the young mom's appearance.
You see, Penney has tattoos, rainbow-colored hair, and piercings. But none of that matters to her patients. As she wrote in a Facebook post, "I can't recall a time that my hair color has prevented me from providing life saving treatment to one of my patients. My tattoos have never kept them from holding my hand and as they lay frightened and crying because Alzheimer's has stolen their mind."
