We can't imagine how this poor woman, Lula Johnson, was feeling in this emotional moment.
Johnson's home caught fire on Thanksgiving morning, and as crews from the Fort Worth, TX, fire department arrived at the scene, she tearfully let the firefighters know that her husband was still trapped inside. They were able to locate the elderly man and get him outside right away, where emergency personnel began treating him for cardiac arrest.
As Johnson, who had escaped out a back window, was being loaded on to a stretcher and transported away from the scene, fire captain Larry Manasco held her hand and tried to reassure her with a few kind words.

This firefighter's simple gesture surely helped to keep Johnson relatively calm in an otherwise scary, upsetting situation. Not only that, it demonstrates the true selflessness and kindness that goes into a career where saving others is part of the job description.
