3 Tips for Getting Wavy Hair and Extra Volume Overnight

Love the volume of “effortless” wavy hair but hate the time it takes to create them? Great news! You can do it in your sleep!

Styling damp hair before bed actually locks in texture as it dries to reveal bouncy strands come morning — fuss-free! Find the best technique for your strands!

Medium hair?

Part slightly damp hair down the middle and drape it equally over each shoulder. Split the section of hair over one shoulder in half, then starting from the top of the head, twist the pieces together (laying one over the other) until you reach the bottom.

Secure with a hair tie and repeat on the other side. Remove in the morning and gently tousle wavy hair with fingers.

Fine locks?

Mist a texture spray, like Eva NYC Surf’s Up! Texture Spray (Buy at Kohls, $4.80), all over damp locks to give the finer strands grip. Next, twist 2″ sections of hair around the middle and index fingers, rolling twists up to the roots; pin in place, then repeat all over the head.

Remove pins in the morning; comb through hair gently with fingers

Thick tresses?

Pull damp strands into a tail through a sock bun, like Kitsch Medium Brown Bun Form (Buy at Ulta, $4). Place the bun on the crown of the head. Split the tail into two sections and wrap each section around the perimeter of the sock bun until all of hair is wrapped; pin in place. Remove pins and bun in the morning; comb with fingers.
