Good news for those of you who don’t like the taste of coffee--or spike it with plenty of sugar! Your personality may actually be kinder than that of your cappuccino-swilling friends. (But you suspected that all along, right?!)
Researchers at University of Innsbruck in Austria had approximately 1,000 people fill out surveys ranking a variety of foods on a preference scale and also by their levels of sweetness, saltiness, sourness, and bitterness in a study. But they didn’t stop there. The researchers then had the participants fill out questionnaires that revealed traits about their personalities.
The people with the darkest personalities? They loved bitter foods and drinks. So while you’re not entirely in the clear, sugar-lovers, we’re calling this one for you. (Earlier research also found that experiencing sweetness increased study participants’ self-reported agreeableness and intention to help.) Sweeten your coffee and enjoy your sunnier outlook on life, and maybe your black coffee-loving friends will follow your positive example.
