Celine Dion Can Do a Split at Age 51 — Here’s How She Stays Fit

Tags:

Staying fit after age 50 can be tough to say the least. Nonetheless, celebrities like Celine Dion have managed to master the art, and the singer recently showed off her impressive body.

Taking to Instagram, Dion posted a video of herself doing a split. And we mean a full split — with what seemed to be very little effort! And while Celine has always been in good shape, the video impressed her followers — and us! — in a major way. One fan gushed, “you are amazing my dear. not only the best singer in the world, but a good dancer too” while another called her “the queen of flexibility.” The video was captioned, “Stretching into the weekend like…. 😉🧘🏼‍♀️ – Team Céline.”  But where does the star get her impeccable shape from, anyway?

Dion’s secret is that ever since the passing of her husband, Rene Angelil, in 2016, she’s been practicing ballet with a backup dancer of hers, Pepe Munoz. She spoke to Marie Claire in 2019, explaining that she believes ballet is “so romantic, dramatic, sensual, it’s like a dream.” She continued, “I decided, when I met Pepe, that maybe it’s a sign.”

Dion reportedly trained with her backup dancer four times a week after performances during her residency in Las Vegas. “We stretch and we do the barre, we kind of improv. I do this four times a week. I’m working hard, but I like to move,” she said of the experience. According to Dion, who turned 50 in 2018, she’s hit her second wind and believes she’s now in “the best of life.”

In 2019, many people criticized Dion’s dramatic weight loss on social media, calling her things like “gaunt.” She responded on an interview on Entertainment Tonight, saying “Is there anything wrong about my body? I do ballet. I do a lot of stretching and I work out because it helps my mind, body, and soul.” She also spoke to People after rumors began to circle, explaining “People say, ‘She’s a lot thinner,’ but I’m working hard. I like to move and [weight loss] comes with it.” It’s clear that at the end of the day, all she really wants to do is dance. In the same interview with People, she said “Dancing has been in my DNA all of my life. It’s a dream.”

Celine Dion is no newbie when it comes to shutting down body-shamers, and she insists that what she does for her body is for herself and no one else. “I feel stronger, more beautiful, more grounded,” she said on ABC News. “There’s this power and this strength that comes with that maturity.” We couldn’t agree more.
