Ronald Santana, DMD

Ronaldo Santana, DMD, received his DMD from Fluminense Federal University in Brazil. He then came to the USA to study at Boston University where he earned a Doctor of Science Degree, an advanced Certificate in Periodontology and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Oral Biology/Periodontology.

He later completed a Master of Science in Implantology. During his career, he has worked with colleagues at respected institutions in North America and Europe. Currently, he is Chair of the Department of Periodontology and Oral Implantology and Director of the MSc Program and Research in Periodontology at Temple University, Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry. He is also a Professor of Periodontology, at Fluminense Federal University.

Dr Santana is not only a clinician and an educator, having several teaching awards for excellence, he is also a scholar with multiple awards for his clinical and scientific achievements. His research focus includes novel growth factors for periodontal regeneration as well as cutting-edge transdisciplinary research in diabetes and biomaterials.

To support these efforts, he has maintained continued extramural funding since the late nineties. He has published more than sixty original articles in high-impact refereed international journals and has eight published book chapters. He has lectured extensively internationally on the topics of periodontal esthetics and regeneration, advanced implantology and regenerative medicine. He is a Fellow and Education Delegate at the International Team of Oral Implantology in Brazil and a member of several important international associations in Dentistry.
