The kitchen is one of the most used areas in the majority of homes and therefore one that should be organized. The single biggest thing you can do to improve the look and practicality of a kitchen is to take things out of it. If you don’t use something, remove it from your life. Keep only that which is fresh, works, and makes you happy. There’s no point in buying good things if you don’t know how to throw out bad ones.

Find a place for everything.
If things have a proper home in the kitchen, they are more likely to be put away. Be practical and store your kitchen items where they are used based on frequency of use.
Tame the drawers.
This is where most people tend to keep their gadgets: graters, wooden spoons, strainers, skewers, meat thermometers, and fifty other odds and ends. Keep the best, discard the rest.
Get rid of the bulk.
Pots and pans are bulky and take up a decent amount of space. Be logical and limit your collection to the ones you frequently use and get rid of those that are light, badly designed, worn, or damaged. A bread maker or rice cooker that is used once a year is taking up an unnecessary amount of space.
Many of us have an excessive amount of tableware that has been collected over the years. How many plates, bowls, cups, glasses, and utensils you have depends on your lifestyle, but you need to be realistic. Unless you regularly host big dinner parties, it’s unlikely you need more than eight setting’s worth.
Limit cleaning products.
It’s likely that you will have an excessive amount of cleaning products in your kitchen. Throw or give away anything you don’t find yourself using on a regular basis.
Stay on top of mail.
Pay the bills, file away the newsletters, put the invitations in a diary, and keep surfaces clear.
