Bursting With Flavor Quinoa Steak Salad Recipe Is the Perfect Combo of Sweet and Savory

We added jarred cherry preserves to the dressing for a double dose of fruity flavor.

There’s salad and then there’s salad. When you’re craving a healthy but hearty mix of powerhouse ingredients, this Quinoa Steak Salad recipe has everything you’re looking for. There’s protein-packed steak that’s perfectly seasoned and grilled. And cooked quinoa with its subtly nutty flavor. But it’s the toppings of cherries, scallions, walnuts and mint that really pull together all the ingredients’ goodness to create a blend that is beyond delicious. This dish takes salad to a whole new level. To really savor your quinoa steak salad, we suggest you enjoy it with these simple from-scratch cheddar herb rolls.  To make, simply pulse 2 cups Bisquick baking mix, ⅔ cup milk, ½ cup shredded cheddar, 3 Tbs. butter, 1 Tbs. chopped herbs and 1⁄8 tsp. garlic powder in a food processor. Drop batter by spoonfuls into muffin cups and bake at 425°F for 15–17 min.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup cherry preserves
  • 3 Tbs. + 1 tsp. olive oil
  • 4 tsp. balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tsp. dry Montreal steak seasoning
  • 1 lb. boneless sirloin steak, 1” thick
  • 1 cup cherries, pitted
  • 1 ⅔ cups cooked quinoa
  • 1 scallion, chopped
  • ¼  cup mint leaves
  • ⅓ cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

Whisk preserves, 3 Tbs. oil, vinegar and 1 tsp. seasoning; reserve. Heat grill pan to medium-high. Rub steak with remaining 1 tsp. each oil and seasoning; grill, flipping once, 6–7 min. per side for medium-rare. Let stand 10 min. Halve cherries.

On platter, mix quinoa, cherries and scallion. Chop 2 Tbs. mint; add to quinoa. Slice steak; arrange on platter. Add walnuts and mint leaves. Serve with dressing.
