Despite giving up their royal titles earlier this year, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are still keeping busy. On top of focusing their efforts on social change and the helping those in need due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the pair recently revealed that they’ve signed an exciting new deal with Netflix!

According to Variety, Megs and Harry have been reportedly pitching movie and TV ideas around Hollywood since they moved to California back in March of this year. The new multi-year deal with Netflix will include documentaries, TV and children’s shows, and some films — all based around issues and stories that are important to the couple. Reports say we can look forward to seeing programs like a nature docuseries and an animated series about inspirational women.

“Our lives, both independent of each other and as a couple, have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection,” the pair said in a statement. “Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.”

Netflix has attracted a long list of prominent figures with important messages to share in recent years, like Barack and Michelle Obama. Of the new partnership, Netflix co-CEO and chief content officer Ted Sarandos commented, “Harry and Meghan have inspired millions of people all around the world with their authenticity, optimism, and leadership. We’re incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home – and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere.”

Most recently, Meghan returned to Hollywood to narrate the Disney+ documentary “Elephants,” which benefitted Elephants Without Borders, an organization that protects wildlife in Botswana where she and Harry took their first vacation as a couple. Harry also worked with the makers of Netflix’s recent documentary “Rising Phoenix,” which was centered on the global impact of the Paralympic Games.

“As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens,” the pair said. “We are pleased to work with Ted and the team at Netflix whose unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action.”
