After Harry’s Bombshell, Prince William Has His Own Mental Health Confession

Tags:

A day after Prince Harry opened up about seeking therapy for his mental health struggles following Princess Diana’s death, his brother Prince William had quite a bit to say about mental health himself.

Specifically, he released a four-minute film on social media in which he spoke to singer Lady Gaga about their respective mental health campaigns, and how they can help normalize mental health issues, so that more people are willing to come forward for help when they need it.

“It’s time that everyone speaks up and really feels very normal about mental health. It’s the same as physical health,” Prince William says in the video. “Everybody has mental health, and we shouldn’t be ashamed of it and just having a conversation with a friend or family member can really make such a difference.”

He adds, “It’s really important to have this conversation and that you won’t be judged. It’s so important to break open that fear and that taboo which is only going to lead to more problems down the line.”

In the video, Prince William praises Lady Gaga over FaceTime for opening up about her own personal struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. And Lady Gaga praises the royal for his work among his family members in the Heads Together campaign for mental health.

And that same day, Prince William got even more candid about mental health in an off-the-cuff speech.

Following a preview of a documentary about runners with mental health issues training for a marathon, the royal admitted seeing it had touched him.

“Wow, yeah. I’m speechless actually. I’m quite emotional. So I am just going to take a minute to calm myself down,” he said.

Then, he opened up about why he was so invested in these issues in particular.

“I have my own reasons for being involved in mental health—what happened to me and my mother when I was younger,” he said.

He added, “The more we have influential and very important people speaking about their issues and their battles, the better.”

Thank you for speaking up, Prince William!
