Kate Middleton Had the Best Reaction to a Joke About William Taking a Long Time to Propose

The duchess clearly has a great sense of humor!

Tomorrow marks the 10th anniversary of Prince William and Kate Middleton walking down the aisle to say “I do.” It’s hard to believe so much time has passed since we all tuned in to watch their royal wedding!

Now that it’s a decade later, you may have forgotten how time added a bit of tension to their nuptials — specifically, how much of it William took before getting down on one knee. The couple began dating in 2002, which means he waited eight long years to finally make things official with Kate in 2011. They infamously broke up for a short period in 2007, but he still took three more years after they reunited to pop the question.

Of course, it all worked out for them and their precious family in the end, and now it seems that Kate looks back on the whole thing with a sense of humor. She paid a visit to the Evelina London Children’s Hospital in early 2020 where one of the patients’ moms, Sarah Ibendahl, got a chance to chat with the duchess.

After discussing the creative workshops at the hospital, Ibendahl said, “We also bonded over the fact it took our husbands like nine years before they asked us to marry them. When I mentioned it she laughed politely and gave a knowing smile.” How cute is that? We’d love to have a similarly cheeky convo with Kate!

Onlookers also noticed that Kate wasn’t wearing her sapphire engagement ring or diamond eternity band while at the hospital. It wasn’t any lingering animosity toward William that caused her to shed her glitzier rings (she still had her wedding band on), she was just following the facility’s protocol of removing anything that could be a potential hygiene hazard for the patients.

And even though William took his time asking for Kate’s hand in marriage, they sped things up when it came to the actual nuptials. The pair tied the knot just five months after their big engagement news, so we’re sure there weren’t any hard feelings.

Happy anniversary, William and Kate!
