It’s no secret that home and lifestyle guru Martha Stewart — who turned 80 this week! — is a busy woman. It’s hard to see how she can prioritize her health and wellness in between filming cooking videos, brainstorming ideas for her newest HGTV show, or making blog posts that help us all live our lives better. But, the octogenarian says that she’s found one tried and true product that helps her look and feel amazing — and it’s got to do with marijuana.
Stewart confessed in a New York Times interview that she loves CBD. So much so, in fact, that she partnered with the marijuana grower Canopy Growth in 2019 to develop hemp-derived CBD wellness products like gummies, oil tinctures, and softgels. “I’ve found that CBD supplements are a simple way to enhance my own health and wellness,” she said. “Especially when it comes to managing the stresses of daily life.”
CBD, which stands for cannabidiol, is a chemical compound found in the cannabis plant. Most recently, it’s been used as a holistic treatment for issues like pain, anxiety, insomnia, and even symptoms of depression. And even though it comes from cannabis, CBD doesn’t get you high. The chemical in cannabis responsible for a “high” is called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and THC is not generally found in CBD products. “I pop 20 of them [gummies] and just feel OK,” she said. “But some of my friends do two and feel high, I don’t know why. It’s not high like a marijuana high. It’s a CBD high, like, relaxed.”
A Day in the Life of Martha Stewart
During the interview, Stewart gave us a sneak peak into what a day in her life is really like. She wakes up at 4 am (yup, every day) beside her Persian cat, Empress Tang. She then reads three newspapers and does the crossword in bed, goes to the gym for a workout, comes home, and gets ready — all before starting her work day at 7. For the rest of the day, she’s busy creating content for her blog and social media profiles, promoting her QVC clothing line, and working her way down her endless to-do list.
And yet, the busy businesswoman shows no signs of slowing down, and she attributes this, at least in part, to CBD. How? Well, CBD has been shown to alleviate stress, and Stewart says it’s been integral in helping her rest. “I’m an insomniac and the CBD Martha Stewart oil drops are so helpfuL,” she told CNBC. “A dropper full of the orange [flavored oil] or a dropper full of the lemon… I also love my CBD gummies.”
Not only that, but Stewart even says that she believes the CBD is positively impacting her skin. “I haven’t been to the dermatologist, but my skin looks really good, and I think that has to do with CBD,” she told the Times. She explained to Allure that she started experimenting with CBD skincare during the quarantine, too. “I had been trying CBD masks, and I thought, Well, gee, this is really interesting. It really is making a difference in the elasticity.”
Since then, Stewart has announced that she and Canopy Growth are also working together to make a CBD skincare line called 86 Elm (named after her childhood home address). “I think CBD is so good for your skin,” she says. “I don’t like to use the word ‘anti-aging,’ but we want our skin to be lovely and smooth, and that’s what our products will really help do.” The skincare line is currently set to launch this summer, and will include CBD-infused Revival Serum, Restorative Night Cream, Rehydrating Mist, and a Replenishing Sheet Mask.
We have to say that for someone with so much on her plate, the above selfie proves that Martha Stewart is truly still living her best life, looking and feeling as fabulous as ever. She’s convinced us all to hop on the CBD train, and we’re excited for her future endeavors in the business!
