Glow Up With These Beach-Inspired Beauty Tricks

Can’t make it to the beach this summer? No problem! These beauty tricks bring the benefits of the sea to you. Even better? They’re affordable and easy — you probably already have some of the ingredients on hand!

Shrink belly bloat with a seaweed wrap.

Is your favorite swimsuit feeling a little tight? Try this! Soak four sheets of dried seaweed in a bowl of water for five minutes, then apply the sheets to your stomach. Let them sit 15 minutes, then remove and rinse. Why does it work? Packed with circulation-increasing iodine, the algae pushes out the excess fluids and toxins that make the belly look puffy. One to try: Kimnori Nori Seaweed Sheets (Buy from Amazon, $4).

Volumize hair with a sea salt scrub.

Summer’s heat can leave hair limp and blah — but this simple trick can help. Mix a tablespoon of sea salt with a tablespoon of olive oil, then rub on a damp scalp for one minute. Let sit five minutes; rinse. Sea salt’s granules remove follicle-clogging buildup to boost hair growth, while its minerals deeply moisturize, plumping the diameter of strands for an instantly fuller look. Mixing it with fatty acid–rich olive oil strengthens hair to reduce shedding.

Heal back blemishes with a spirulina spot mask.

Sweaty summer days can easily lead to annoying — and painful — back breakouts. Thwart them by combining two teaspoons of spirulina powder, like California Gold Nutrition’s Organic Spirulina Powder (Buy from iHerb, $14), with one teaspoon of water. Apply to breakouts, then let sit 10 minutes before rinsing. The blue-green algae contains antimicrobial properties that help kill acne-causing bacteria. Also great: It’s rich in anti-inflammatory compounds that reduce the redness that accompanies blemishes.

Firm saggy skin with a caviar lotion.

Using Mario Badescu Caviar Day Cream (Buy from Amazon, $20) is a great way to tighten up skin so you look fantastic in a sleeveless sundress or a pair of shorts. The fish eggs’ extract contains compounds that promote skin-firming collagen and elastin production to smooth out fine lines and firm saggy skin. Even better? Antioxidants in caviar prevent the future breakdown of collagen and elastin so skin remains youthful.

Smooth cellulite with a Dead Sea mud mask.

If you’re reluctant to show your skin in the summer because of cellulite, there are some beauty tricks to help you feel your best. One of our favorites is massaging a mud mask into any area with cellulite Let it sit for 15 minutes, then rinse. We like Ahava Natural Dead Sea Body Mud (Buy from Walmart, $18) because mud from the Dead Sea acts like a magnet to draw out trapped toxins that make cellulite appear more apparent. What’s more, vitamins in the mud hydrate while pulling moisture to skin’s surface to help “fill in” dimples.
