Winter Storms to Bring a ‘Snow Parade’ Through the Weekend

Tags:

Just in case we needed a reminder that winter is far from over: There’s a new winter storm on the way, set to bring heavy snow to a path stretching more than 2,000 miles across the country. Winter Storm Mateo is expected to begin in Montana and the Dakotas on Thursday and spread all the way to New England through Friday night, according to The Weather Channel. And that’s only the beginning.

Mateo is expected to be especially heavy in the northern High Plains and parts of the Midwest, slowing travel for millions of commuters in the Chicago, Milwaukee, and Detroit metro areas on Friday. Several winter storm warnings have already been put in effect in parts of Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Additionally, Montana and the Dakotas also have some winter storm warnings in effect. During this time, some regions could possibly get up to a foot of snow. By Friday night, most of the snow from this storm will spread into areas of northern New England — but that doesn’t mean other regions in the country get off easy after that.

Instead, forecasters say to expect a “snow parade” right off the heels of Mateo through this weekend — yet another snow system is bringing a new wintry mix from the Rockies and Plains to the Midwest and the Northeast. Though snowfall totals are expected to be relatively modest that time around, ice accumulations are possible in some areas — especially on elevated surfaces, bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads.

Yikes! If you live in any of the aforementioned regions, be sure to stay tuned to your local weather station for the latest updates. Exercise caution when walking outside or driving on the roads, and be sure to bundle up.

Stay warm out there, everyone!
