A $17 Coffee Scrub Might Just Be the Best Thing That’s Happened to Your Skin

We write about products we think our readers will like. If you buy them, we get a small share of the revenue from the supplier.

Trying to pin down the perfect treatment for your frustrating skin condition can feel like a never-ending process of trial and error. Even when you feel like you’ve finally found a few products that appear to do the trick, your epidermis can rebel once again with a whole new slew of issues. That’s what makes the latest skincare product garnering online attention so enticing: It reportedly helps treat pretty much any blemish you might be battling — and the modest $17 price tag doesn’t hurt, either.

Users who’ve reviewed Frank Body’s Original Coffee Scrub claim it has calmed down stretch marks, scars, acne, cellulite, and eczema, just to name a few. The company’s website lists the scrub’s ingredients as a “blend of coffee and oils” that will “keep your skin looking perky, even, and soft as a kitten with a blowout.” While we don’t recommend giving feline friends that particular spa treatment, we have to admit they are speaking our language with the snuggly-soft comparison.

With over 4,000 reviews on Influenster, the scrub clocks in at just shy of five stars. Of the users who were less thrilled by the product, most said they aren’t fans of coffee in the first place or were unhappy with the aroma. If you’re someone who skips your morning joe for that same reason, you’ll probably want to pass on this product. A review by user Chantalle C. also mentions how the grounds will get “everywhere in your tub/shower,” though she still recommended using it especially in winter months to combat dry skin.

If you’re not sure about a physical scrub like this versus a chemical exfoliant, the beauty experts at Into the Gloss examined the benefits of each method and gave both of them the thumbs up. However, they also warned against using physical exfoliants made from fruit pits or nut shells as they can cause “micro-tearing.” Instead, they advise using scrubs with smaller granules, like coffee or sugar scrubs, that are just as powerful without the irritation.

On top of that gentle exfoliation from the Robusta coffee, the Frank Body scrub also includes almond oil to hydrate and keep it from being too abrasive. A 2018 study showed that almond oil is one of the plant-based oils that come packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that help to repair wounds and other skin afflictions. While we prefer our coffee safely sitting in our mugs, it just might work as well at perking up our skin as it does our groggy morning brains.
