Fragrant Shower Bombs Are the Quickest Way to Slip Self-Care Time into Your Busy Day

Tags:

There’s nothing we love more than crawling into a bubble bath at the end of a long day, which is why we’ve always wondered whether bath bombs for showers existed. Wouldn’t it be nice to recreate the relaxing effects of a bath bomb in the shower for those days when you need to decompress — but you’ve only got 10 minutes to spare? As it turns out, bath bombs for showers are available for purchase online and in stores, and you can even make a DIY version.

A shower bomb is very similar to a bath bomb: It’s basically a tablet you leave in your shower. The main difference is that, instead of dissolving in a matter of seconds, a shower bomb can last you multiple washes. All you need to do is sprinkle it with a few drops of water to release soothing scented oils; the steamy conditions in your shower will do the rest. And if you place the tablet on a soap shelf or in your shower caddy away from direct and sustained contact with water, it’ll last even longer.

You can buy shower bombs from dozens of retailers online, including Amazon ($19.95 for six, Amazon). They come in a variety of scents, with popular choices being eucalyptus, lavender, peppermint, and orange. Stores like Bath and Body Works and Ulta have their own versions, which are perfect for busy women who want a calming shower ASAP.

Because shower bombs are made from the same ingredients as traditional bath bombs, you can also make a cheaper version yourself. All you need is baking soda, citric acid, cornstarch, and essential oils. With a handmade shower bomb, you can customize the oils you use to target different needs, like muscle and joint pain, sleeping problems, and heartburn. (Even just talking about shower bombs has relaxed us!)

If you, like us, are in desperate need of just 15 minutes of self-care — free of screaming kids, whiny husbands, and dishes that don’t clean themselves — we’re giving you the OK to lock yourself in the bathroom, pop in a shower bomb, and get some alone time. That’s what we’ll be doing!
