Lora Koch was completely shocked last month when she received a phone call after a routine mammogram. The doctor on the other end told he she had breast cancer, and recommended surgery.
The mom of two decided to have a double mastectomy and the surgery was scheduled for mid-February. Recovering from the surgery was tough–she wasn’t feeling great. What she didn’t know is that Jim, her husband of 26 years, had been planning a surprise on his own. While she was still in the hospital, Jim had bought new wedding rings.
Back at home, her husband got down on his knees and proposed to his wife for a second time. He said, “I’ll always love you no matter what and we can be strong through this together.” Later she told her younger daughter Christin that she’d been so touched by the gesture. “This is true love,” she said.
Luckily, Christin captured the sweet moment and tweeted out for the world to see.
My mom is currently recovering from breast cancer surgery & my dad bought her a new wedding ring & reproposed to her & im crying pic.twitter.com/OOEmB7bHC2— Christin Koch (@christinkoch2) March 1, 2017
As Lora told Today.com: “Cancer may change a lot of things in your life but the love and the concern from your family and friends doesn’t change.” This story is so inspiring!

Princess Eugenie Engagement Ring
Princess Eugenie's Engagement Ring
On October 12, Princess Eugenie will marry her love, the wine merchant Jack Brooksbank, at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor — the same place Harry and Meghan were wed earlier this year. The engagement ring Jack gave to Eugenie features an oval, coral-colored padparadscha sapphire surrounded by diamonds and is similar to the engagement ring that Eugenie's mother, Sarah Ferguson, received from her father, Prince Andrew, back in 1986 (though that ring was a gorgeous Burmese ruby surrounded by diamonds).
Princess Diana Ring
Princess Diana's Engagement Ring
The engagement ring of Princess Diana consists of a 12-carat oval blue sapphire, surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds and set in 18K white gold. Because she chose it herself, she was heavily criticized for picking one that was available to so-called commoners instead of having one custom-made. But Princess Diana's engagement ring quickly became iconic after millions of non-royal women took a look at that rock — the style practically flew off the shelves!
Kate Middleton Ring
Kate Middleton's Engagement Ring
After Prince William inherited his beloved late mother's ring, he passed it on to his wife Kate. Although the piece of jewelry was slightly too big for her, the duchess was able to have it altered by the Crown Jeweller, G. Collins and Sons. You'd never guess just by looking at it, but the team actually placed small platinum rings inside of it to make sure it fit comfortably. And of course, it still looks stunning to this day!
Meghan Markle Engagment Ring
Meghan Markle's Engagement Ring
Prince Harry designed a ring for his lovely bride-to-be with three shining diamonds. As the royal told BBC in an interview following the engagement announcement, he had the main diamond sourced from Botswana. The two surrounding diamonds are from Princess Diana's personal collection. We love how both he and Prince William found a special way to honor their mom when proposing to their lovely ladies!
Queen Elizabeth Ring
Queen Elizabeth's Engagement Ring
As you might imagine, Queen Elizabeth's engagement ring is nothing short of regal — and it has a pretty sweet story behind it, too. The sparkling diamonds in the jewelry actually came from a tiara that belonged to her husband Prince Philip's mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg. Aww, we always knew that her spouse had a soft side!
The Queen Mother Ring
The Queen Mother's Engagement Ring
Queen Elizabeth's mother received this gorgeous emerald-cut diamond ring from her husband, George VI. Set in platinum with baguette diamonds on each side, it's certainly a sight for sore eyes. Much like other royal family rings, she was not the only person or even the last person to own this special piece.
Camilla Duchess Of Cornwall Ring
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall's Ring
If you thought the Queen Mother's ring looked familiar, it might be because it currently belongs to Camilla. The Duchess of Cornwall received it from Prince Charles in 2005. He gave it to her after he inherited it from his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. It's still shining bright as ever!
Princess Michael Of Kent Ring
Princess Michael Of Kent's Engagement Ring
The stones in her ring were actually inherited by her husband's mother, Princess Marina. What a beautiful design!
Sophie Countess Of Wessex Ring 1
Sophie, Countess Of Wessex's Engagement Ring
As The Daily Mail reported, Prince Edward proposed to his beloved Sophie with a ring from the favorite British royal jeweler, Garrard. A two-carat oval diamond with smaller heart-shaped gems, the ring is certainly a dreamy one.
Birgitte Duchess Of Gloucester Ring
Birgitte, Duchess Of Gloucester's Engagement Ring
Her husband Prince Richard put his architectural interest to good use when he designed this special ring for her! How romantic.
Anne Princess Royal Ring
Princess Anne's Wedding Ring
According to Hello! magazine, Princess Anne chose her own engagement ring — a lovely sapphire and diamond one — for her first marriage to Captain Mark Phillips. Isn't it elegant?
Princess Alexandra Ring
Princess Alexandra's Engagement Ring
Queen Elizabeth's cousin got quite a special ring before she married Sir Angus Ogilvy! The deep blue oval piece of jewelry reminds us so much of Princess Anne's ring.
Katharine Duchess Of Kent Ring
Katharine, Duchess Of Kent's Ring
This ring was given to her by the Duke of Kent (and Queen Elizabeth's cousin), Prince Edward. Isn't it stunning?
