It’s the start of 2018, but instead of spending our time thinking about ideas for a new year’s resolution, we’ve come up with something else. We already know that we could probably be more social, or more active, or healthier, or friendlier. But how do we make sure that we’re doing that in concrete ways? Instead of just setting intangible goals for the year, we’re starting our own 2018 bucket list instead.
It’s full of small things — most of them can be accomplished within a day, and the rest are small time investments — but they’re things you’ll want to do over the year. And if you start small, it’ll be easy to branch out and go big after. Getting started is half the battle, but we’re committing to this 2018 bucket list — what about you? Check out our bucket list for 2018 below.
New Year's Resolution Call An Old Friend
Call an old friend.
There's never a bad reason to reconnect, and it's always nice to catch up. Instead of wondering what your old sorority sister from college is doing these days, just give her a call instead.
New Year's Resolution Get A Manicure
Get a manicure.
You always take care of everybody else, but in 2018 make sure you're taking time to take care of yourself, too. If you don't want to go get a manicure, break out the polish and do it yourself at home.
New Year's Resolution Have A Movie Marathon
Have a movie marathon.
Schedule a weekend to just stay in, pop some popcorn, pour some wine, and catch up on all the movies you didn't want to pay to see in theaters. There've been some good ones this year!
New Year's Resolution Make A New Friend
Make a new friend.
At the gym, at the market, at your friend's dinner party — try talking to someone new. It's always nice to expand your social circles and challenge yourself to meet new people.
New Year's Resolution Cook A Meal
Cook a three-course meal.
Can't cook? You can follow a recipe for three simple dishes. An expert in the kitchen? Whip up something special on a Saturday night.
New Year's Resolution Make A Photo Album
Make a photo album.
You've got all those photos you took of your family last holiday. Why not put them all together somewhere safe that you'll love to flip through later?
New Year's Resolution Make A Snowman
Make a snowman.
Whether you live in the snow or have to drive to see some, making a snowman is always worth the trek. Don't forget he needs his own scarf — and so do you.
New Year's Resolution Plan A Trip
Plan a trip.
Whether you're finally buying those plane tickets to Greece or just mapping out your route to that National Park you've always wanted to visit, make that adventure you've been daydreaming about come true.
New Year's Resolution Start A New Tradition
Start a new family tradition.
It's never too later to start something new with the little ones. Whether you always bake a certain type of cookie together or always visit the same park for a picnic, you'll find something you love.
New Year's Resolution Take A Class
Take a class.
Painting, sculpture, boxing — whatever. It's a good reason to get out of the house and learn a new skill.
New Year's Resolution Wear Something Wanted
Wear something you've always wanted to.
You've had that dress in the back of your closet for years. Find an occasion it would be perfect for, and then dare to actually wear it.
New Year's Resolution Walk The Dog
Take your dog for a long walk.
Your furry friend is craving adventure just as much as you are. Get out there and make it happen.
New Year's Resolution Write A Letter
Write a letter.
No, not an email. And not a holiday card. An actual, honest-to-God, letter. It's always nice to get something personal in the mail, and if you send one out, you'll probably get one back.
New Year's Resolution Give To A Cause
Give to a cause you care about.
Your time or your money. You can help people and know that you've made a difference in the world.
New Year's Resolution Do Something Scary
Do something that scares you.
Conquer a fear that you've always been afraid to face — or just follow through on something that you've always chickened out of.
New Year's Resolution Pick Wildflowers
They make the most beautiful bouquets — and finding wildflowers is half the fun.
New Year's Resolution Enjoy The Sun
Get out and enjoy the sun.
Soak up the rays, whether it's at the beach, at the park, or in your own backyard.
New Year's Resolution Plant Something
Plant something and watch it grow.
You can even start your own garden. But when that first tiny bud breaks through the surface of the soil, you'll know that hard work was all you.
