She Lost 115 Pounds by Using Instagram

Is the secret to weight loss Instagram? The social media app was a key element for Morgan Bartley in her weight loss success story. And how well did it work? Well, she lost 115 pounds, so we’d say pretty darn well, especially considering how far she’s come from the beginning.

“I was overweight as young as I can remember,” Bartley said.

But she really started packing on the pounds after an ovarian torsion caused her to lose an ovary at the tender age of 12. After having surgery to untwist her remaining ovary at age 14, the young teen began experiencing menopausal symptoms and went from simply being overweight to being obese. And when she was told she’d probably never have kids, she became depressed and gained a whopping 70 pounds in just one year.

Real talk || What's my motivation? I am. Period, point blank. I'm constantly inspired by other people, but when the world around me just isn't doing it, I've got me- that's what I can count on. I really just want to be someone that I'm proud of, if that makes sense? I've made a commitment to myself to never stop, even when it feels like the rest of the world does. Change isn't always powered by motivation. In fact, I've found that the most genuine changes I've made have been powered by a decision. I've decided to work hard and turn my life back into one worth living. Take it from someone who once thought all of that was some impossible bs👆🏼, you CAN do it. #beforeandduring #teamlosing

Before she knew it, she was only 17 years old and weighing almost 300 pounds. It was then that she finally resolved to lose weight — and document her step-by-step progress on Instagram.

“I realized, ‘There’s so many things that I want to do in my life, and I’ll be damned if my weight is the thing that prevents me,'” she said.

While being cheered on by her many Instagram followers (she now has 152,000), she began regularly posting photos to share the results of her healthy lifestyle choices. For instance, she got a trainer, went on a high-protein and low-carb diet, and got a vertical-sleeve gastrectomy.

But she says posting photos was key to helping her keep the weight off.

“If everyone knew I was trying to lose weight, I’d feel accountable,” she said.

It looks like accountability really paid off. Along with the indisputable visual transformation, she now works at a fitness studio. And right now, she’s studying business to eventually create a company that helps other people lose weight too.
