Woman Jumps in Front of Speeding Car and Saves Boy’s Life

Residents of Bridgeport, CT—and now, people in much of the country—can’t stop talking about the heroic actions of a woman who jumped in front of a speeding car and saved a young boy’s life. The dramatic incident was caught on video, and we warn you, it may be upsetting to watch. But we couldn’t help but pass along the story of this woman’s stunning act of bravery—and you just may feel the same way once you hear what happened.

Three people were seriously injured in the crash in Bridgeport, which occurred about 1:30 p.m. last Wednesday, according to television station News 12 Connecticut. A speeding car came barreling toward a group of pedestrians before slamming into a building. One passerby, Shanta Jordan, was captured on surveillance video jumping in front of the vehicle in an effort to push a young boy out of the out-of-control car’s path.

While Jordan attempted to push the little boy out of the way as the car came speeding down the road, she didn’t make it in time to get them both to safety. Police say, however, that Jordan’s body absorbed much of the impact, likely ultimately saving the child’s life, although he still suffered serious injuries. (Doctors initially thought they may need to amputate his legs, but surgeons managed to save them both after hours of operating.)

Jordan did not know the little boy.

“She is a heroine. She is a great person and she is an asset to this community,” Bridgeport Police Chief A.J. Perez said. “If she did not step in, the child would be in direct contact with the motor vehicle against the wall and most likely, he would have perished, he would have died.”

The shocking video shows the fateful moment when Jordan jumps in front of the speeding car, which sent both her and the boy crashing into the brick wall. (Warning: The video contains graphic footage which may be upsetting.)

Talk about a heroic moment that sends chills down your spine.
