Make Iman’s DIY Face Mask With These 4 Simple Ingredients

Supermodel Iman has always been known for her flawless, glowing skin, and at 66, the former model is still as radiant as ever. Now she’s letting fans in on her beauty secrets — and you can make her favorite DIY face mask with four ingredients you probably already have on hand.

Iman rose to fame in the late 1970s and soon became a fixture on the runway and in magazines, thanks to her natural beauty and stunning skin. Turns out, the supermodel has been using the same beauty secret since she was 12 — and the tip comes from Somalia, her native country.

“We’re taught from a young age that the skin you take care of in your twenties is the one you inherit in your sixties and seventies,” Iman said in a recent video for Vogue. “It’s really served me well. It’s an easy DIY because it has everything that you can find [in the kitchen], and it’s cost effective.”

How to Make Iman’s DIY Face Mask

The mask features four simple ingredients that should already be stocked in your kitchen. The base of the mask consists of flour, milk, turmeric, and honey. Follow Iman’s exact recipe below:

Iman’s DIY Face Mask
  • 2 tablespoons of flour
  • 3 tablespoons of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • A splash of honey (she doesn’t specify how much, but it looks like she uses about half a teaspoon)

In the video below, Iman mixes everything in a bowl and shows the consistency that you want the face mask to get — thick and flowy, almost elastic-looking. She also recommends putting on a headband to keep your hair out of your face, preferably a black one, since turmeric can really stain.

Iman then applies the mask all over her face and her neck in smooth downward motions. The supermodel says she leaves the mask on for 20-30 minutes and finishes up her beauty routine while she’s waiting, which also makes it a time-effective practice!

Benefits of Turmeric and Honey

It’s not hard to see why Iman calls turmeric and honey the “magic” ingredients of her mask. Turmeric has a slew of health benefits, mostly thanks to its high levels of curcumin. The powerful antioxidant works to reduce inflammation in the entire body and can really help with puffiness and inflammation in your face. Its antioxidant properties also help brighten dark spots.

Honey is also full of antioxidants that have anti-inflammatory properties: A study published last year found that honey acts as a natural anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and disinfectant when applied topically. One of our writers even uses it to treat her sunburns with instantly soothing results.

We may not all look like supermodels, but thanks to Iman’s DIY face mask, we can have skin as glowing as one!
