I’m pretty easy-going in the cleaning department compared to most, but if there’s one pet peeve I have, it’s going to throw something away in the trash — only to find an empty bin where a trash bag should be. When I forget to replace it, something about having to stop whatever I’m doing to seek a bag out from under the sink, shake it open, and stretch it over the bin before ridding myself of my garbage leaves me internally seething. As it turns out, however, there’s actually one trash can that will ensure I never return from the dumpster to an empty bin again: The Townew ($119.95, Amazon).
This genius device will not only seal your trash bag for you once it’s full, it will replace the bag, no touching required.
That’s right! What once was just an Indiegogo dream has become a reality, with more than 1,700 people shelling out more than $130,000 to bring the Townew to life. Now available on Amazon, this machine will not only alert you when there’s too much trash in the bin, prompting you to take it out, its patented, thermosealing technology is able to close and wrap up the bag for you at the touch of a button before replacing it with a fresh one once the old one has been removed.
What’s more, it’s got an odor-sealing lid that will automatically lift once it senses trash coming its way, so you never have to make contact.
In addition to keeping your hands free of any icky germs that might be lingering around your can, it’s better for the environment: Townew uses a special removable, refillable ring made of a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) material that’s actually biodegradable (buy the refills here for $19.99). Each one contain 25 bags each (they last about a month, according to the brand) that are 100 percent recyclable.
Customers are certainly loving this system. Wrote one Amazon buyer: “The Townew trash can is super cool since it seals and changes the trash bags for you! As someone who hates taking out the trash, I really like these features since I can just hit the button to seal the bag and then replace it right away. If you’re lazy like me, I highly recommend getting it!”
Added another: “Amazing piece of technology I never thought I would be wowed by a trash can, but after receiving my model from the Indiegogo campaign I have and now ordered two more.”
It comes in teal or white and one refill ring, a power adapter for its rechargeable battery (each charge lasts a month), and a manual are all included with your initial purchase.
It’s official: I’ve met my garbage match.
