Stick Burned Baking Sheets Back in the Oven for Pans That Shine Like New

Tags:

If your once shiny baking pans are now constellations of blackened bits that stay put no matter how hard you scrub, you need to know how to clean burned baking sheets. Lucky for you, it’s pretty easy — and it doesn’t require a single spray, powder, or cleaning liquid.

The secret to cleaning a baking sheet so it shines like new is to put it in the oven, hit the self-cleaning button, and let the machine do its job. Don’t ask us why it works, it just does. And if you’re not convinced of this cleaning hack, just take a look at this “before” and “after” shared on reddit by Chris Culbreth.

Culbreth’s baking pans look a bit like ours: crusted over with gunk that just won’t wash off. Then, he put his pan back in the oven and let the self-cleaning function go to work for two hours.

We know, we know — this is a different pan, right? Wrong! Your baking pans can sparkle just like Culbreth’s if you take advantage of your self-cleaning oven. Seriously, people. All you have to do is press a button and walk away. Could there be anything easier?

That said, we want to offer this word of caution before you start chucking every piece of stained cookware you own in the oven. This cleaning trick should only be used on metal baking sheets. Do not — we repeat, do not! — use the self-cleaning function for nonstick and plastic baking pans. Nonstick coating will deteriorate over time if its exposed to high heat, resulting in the release of toxic chemicals.

The only step now is for you to take your dirty baking sheets and try this cleaning wizardry for yourself. After so many hours spent futilely scouring your stained pans, you’ll regret not learning this trick earlier.
