#TGIF: 3 Feel-Good Stories To Boost Your Happiness All Weekend Long

Tags:

Ah, the weekend! A time to take it easy and treat yourself — whether that means relaxing by pool or diving into a juicy new book. Before you properly start your weekend, read some positive content to ensure that you’ll be in great spirits in the days to come. Here are three feel-good news stories for July 8, 2022.

1. Eight-Year-Old “Kidpreneur” Launches a Fizzy Lemonade Drink Brand

Summer vacation is in full swing, and for many kids it’s a time for a little rest and relaxation before school starts up again. For eight-year-old Zoe Mack of Maryland, the warm weather offered the perfect opportunity to kickstart her lemonade soda business called Zoe’s Pink Lemonade Soda.

The young entrepreneur (nicknamed “kidpreneur”) launched online preorders for 12-packs of the soda on July 3 — with full sales beginning on July 14. Wondering what makes Zoe’s Pink Lemonade Soda so special? Well, it’s made with real cane sugar instead of artificial sweeteners. “It’s perfectly sweet with just a little bit of sour,” Mack says in a press release via email of the unique flavor.

The pink soda and its custom-designed cardboard box was made with young girls like herself in mind. But Mack hopes that customers of all ages have a chance to try it. “My soda makes a great gift and I hope everyone loves it as much as I do,” she concludes.

2. Idaho Man Breaks a Fiery Guinness World Record

Guinness World Records are always impressive feats to learn about. Idaho native David Rush is no stranger to breaking records, and he recently became the new world record holder for snapping the most matches in half in 30 seconds.

“I snapped 91 matches last time I did a match-snapping record in 2019. This time I got 83. Why were both Guinness World Records titles? In 2019, I broke the one-minute record and this time it was the 30-second variety,” he writes on DavidRush4Stem.com.

He puts the secret behind his record-breaking success down to dedication and proper training. “Practice, perseverance, [and] patience. I increased my speed dramatically using hand-strengthening exercises and a single-hand technique to break each match,” he explains.

The previous record for most matches snapped in half in 30 seconds was 67. However, Rush’s video shows him topping that number in real time.

3. Couple Celebrates Over 7 Decades of Marriage Just Before Their 100th Birthdays

Hubert and June Malicote share a heartwarming love story that has stood the test of time. The couple were both born in July 1922 in Kentucky and met during a church service when they were 19.

“Miraculously, the back pew was empty, so we went in and they were all standing and right in front of us was a pew full of young girls,” Hubert tells WLWT of their first encounter. “She looked around at me and smiled.” It wasn’t long before the two became friends and then lovers.

The couple tied the knot on June 8, 1943. Shortly after their wedding, Hubert was called to serve in the Navy in World War II, and was stationed in Hawaii. However, they kept in contact during Hubert’s service and were reunited two years later. The pair settled in Hamilton, OH and started their family, which now includes three children, seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

June notes that throughout their marriage, they’ve made sure to always get along no matter what. “We’ve never had a quarrel,” June says. Hubert also adds that their vows — including “’til death do us part” — are the driving force behind their long-standing union. “We meant it,” he says.

See the couple speak about their marriage in the interview below ahead of their 100th birthdays later this month.
