This Simple Hack Will Get You Twice as Much When Juicing a Lemon
I don’t know about you, but I always thought I knew every single way to juice a lemon. Whether I was using my hands, a circular juicer, or a squeezer, I assumed that each of these methods was pretty straightforward. However, a new viral hack for utilizing a lemon juice squeezer has me completely second-guessing everything I knew about how it works.
This hack comes from a TikToker named Shara. When it comes to lemon squeezers, most people cut a whole lemon in half, stick it into the squeezer with the fleshy side towards the rounded part of the gadget, and then press down. However, Shara has a tiny addition to this process that will get you way more juice: Cut a small piece off of the other end off of the lemon before situating it in your squeezer round side down. Once you extract all of the juice from your lemon, you’ll notice it’s entirely hollowed out. There’s not a drop left!
I was absolutely stunned by this trick and had a few lemons on hand, so I tried Shara’s hack when making a pitcher of lemon water. I decided to conduct a little experiment as well. I juiced one lemon the normal way I always have with my squeezer sans extra cut, and one lemon using Shara’s method of cutting off the end of the fruit before. Sure enough, she’s 100 percent correct: You can get far more juice with this hack than the other way. I’d even venture to say it was roughly a third more juice than my previous method. Who knew?
I’m a little sad about the amount of lemon juice I now realize I’ve accidentally wasted in my life by not incorporating this trick, but there’s no better time like the present to start getting the most of out of my lemons.
