Prince William and Kate Are About to Make a Huge Move With Their 3 Kids

Tags:

Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly considering a big family move as the Queen continues to rule without Prince Philip. According to two new reports from UK outlets the Mail On Sunday and The Sun, the couple are said to be looking at moving from their 1A apartment in Kensington Palace, London to Windsor to better support the Queen in her final years as monarch.

Prince William will be expected to take on an even greater role in the monarchy as the Queen scales back her duties in the coming years. With that in mind, a move to Windsor could be a smart play as he and Kate pick up even responsibilities as senior royals.

It would also mean their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis will be closer to their great-grandmother in her final years. Relocating their young family to Windsor would mean moving away from Anmer Hall in Norfolk, UK, where Kate and William currently spend much of their time, as well as their London HQ.

The couple and their kids split their time between Kensington Palace in London, and their more idyllic country home. Located in Sandringham, near the Queen’s estate there, Anmer Hall holds many special memories for the family. It was their main home from 2015 until 2017, and the couple spent months in lockdown there with their three children during the pandemic. Now insiders are claiming that Kate and William are hoping to put their duty to the Queen first by moving closer to her.

“Anmer Hall made sense while William was a helicopter pilot in East Anglia and it was useful for Christmases at Sandringham, but it doesn’t really work any more,” a source told the Mail on Sunday. “It’s a little too far away for weekends, but Windsor is a perfect compromise. They are eyeing up options in the area.”

The Sun reports that the couple are “eyeing up” Fort Belvedere, a Grade II listed house in Windsor, for their new home. It’s steeped in royal history — King Edward VIII signed his abdication papers in 1936 — and is nestled at the southern end of Windsor Great Park, close to Windsor Castle.

A move to Windsor would also bring William’s family closer to Kate’s family, as her parents Carole and Michael Middleton live in Bucklebury, Berkshire, just over 37 miles away. Since Prince Philip’s sad death in April this year, senior royals including William and Kate have been stepping up to support the Queen.

Though the late Prince Philip retired from public duties in 2017, behind the scenes he was still one of Queen’s greatest supporters. In the wake of his death, the Queen is expected to start scaling back some of her responsibilities, which will be given over to senior royals like William and his father, Prince Charles.
