The Spice Girls Are Re-Releasing Their Debut Album ‘Spice’ 25 Years Later
Yes — it's been that long since 'Wannabe.'
Spice up your life! The Spice Girls are back in action in 2021 with a re-issue of their hit 1996 debut album, Spice.
On Instagram, the long-time gal pals — Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Mel Brown (Scary Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), and Mel C (Sporty Spice) — announced that the new, two-CD deluxe version of the hit album will mark the 25th anniversary of its original release. Needless to say, their fans went absolutely crazy.
“SURPRISE!! 🎉 To mark the 25th Anniversary of our debut album ‘Spice’ we are releasing a limited edition collection of vinyl and cassettes PLUS a 2CD deluxe featuring some previously unreleased tracks and demos,” the Spice Girls official Instagram post read. “Thank you to the best fans in the world for your continued support and for sticking with us 25 years on, we love you!!! You can pre-order now.”
The crew opened up in a series of posts to talk about the re-release. For each of them, the album clearly holds a special place in their hearts. “All I ever wanted was to be accepted and to make everyone around me — gay, straight, brown, Black, shy, or loud like me — to feel they can celebrate who they are and to be free to be themselves,” Mel B (Scary Spice) said. “All I hope, 25 years on, is that message has been heard loud and clear. It’s true that in the end love IS all you need. So I thank everyone who has ever bought a Spice Girls record or stood in the rain to greet us or got dressed up in pink, in a tracksuit, a ginger wig, a leopard print catsuit, or put on Vic’s iconic pout!”
And the other group members followed suit, thanking Spice Girls fans everywhere for their undying support over the years. Mel C (Sporty Spice) even shared a sentimental note about her time as a Spice Girl. “I have so many wonderful memories of writing, recording, promoting and touring this album and so many people to thank. This is the record that set us off on our incredible journey. A huge thank you to our fans and family all around the World. Thank you for always being there with your unrelenting support and making our dreams come true. My love and gratitude always.”
The re-release, called Spice 25, will include the two-CD deluxe edition of the album equipped with bonus, unreleased tracks, as well as other collectors items to choose from like a vinyl record of the album and five colored cassette tapes. It will be available on October 29, but you can preorder it now.
We’re super excited about this re-release, to save the very least. We’ll tell you what we want what we really really want — more Spice Girls!
