Prince William Finally Comments on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Oprah Interview

Tags:

After four days of silence, Prince William is finally weighing in on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey that took place on March 7.

“We’re very much not a racist family,” William said to the media with his wife Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, by his side. He was specifically addressing the allegations made by his brother and sister-in-law that certain members of the family were concerned about the color of Archie’s skin while Meghan was pregnant with him. He also noted that he hasn’t spoken to his brother since the interview aired but plans to.

William’s comments come two days after Queen Elizabeth issued a rare statement on the matter. “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” it said. “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

The two brothers have reportedly long been strained, which Harry confirmed during the Sunday sit-down. “The majority of the stuff is created out of nothing but as brothers, you know, you have good days, you have bad days,” he noted about what’s been said about their relationship in the tabloids. “I will always be there for him as I know he will always be there for me.”

Harry also understands that his older brother is in a different position than him since he’s heir to the throne. He can’t easily extricate himself from his responsibilities as a future king. “I was trapped and I didn’t know I was trapped,” Harry told Oprah. “My father and my brother, they are trapped, they don’t get to leave.”

There’s no word on when Prince William and Prince Harry are going to talk. But we hope they’re able to heal their rift soon and get back to being the dynamic brotherly duo we all know them to be.
