Paulina Porizkova Says Her Love Life Has Gotten Even Better After Menopause
Like many women, Paulina Porizkova was afraid menopause might slow down (or completely halt) her love life. Instead, the 56-year-old says she’s enjoying her sensual side now more than ever.
“What I have found is that sex gets better with age, which is something that I was kind of terrified about for a while,” the supermodel wrote in an op-ed she recently penned for Yahoo! Entertainment. “I kept hearing all these horror stories about how you go through menopause and then you lose your sex drive and you don’t want to have sex anymore.”
Although a lowered libido is one of the common symptoms of menopause, Porizkova learned that the opposite can also be true. Plus, her age and experience comes with a few perks, too. “Now I take my pleasure where I know I had it or where I can,” she said. “I’m not there to please the guy. I’m there to be pleased.”
She admitted that dating again was a bit of a difficult adjustment at first, though. Porizkova was just 19 when she met her husband, the late Cars frontman Ric Ocasek. They were married for nearly three decades before separating in 2017, but remained close until the rocker’s sudden passing in 2019.
Porizkova claimed she’s “not very good” at dating after being out of practice for so many years. But again, she said there are “other beauties” to meeting new men at her age.
“[When she was younger] it was all very self-conscious, and that self-consciousness is just not there anymore,” she wrote. “And sex is a lot more fun when you’re not self-conscious and when you’re just enthusiastic, I love that. In fact, I think that’s the recipe for great sex.”
Porizkova also revealed she isn’t against taking another walk down the aisle. “I don’t think I’d rule out getting married again because, in spite of it all, I’m a totally hopeless romantic and I believe in love,” she explained. “And I believe in finding that one person out there that is right for me and that I’m right for and spending the rest of my life with them.”
