How to Apply for Jobs Directly on Facebook

Tags:

Facebook is great for catching up with old friends, staying connected to family members (without actually having to hang out with them), and finding delicious-looking last-minute dinner recipes. But did you know that Facebook can also be used to find a job?

It’s brilliant, really: Since you’re already on Facebook anyway, you may as well use the time to hunt around for what new career opportunities might be out there for you. What’s even better is that Facebook has made it super-easy for prospective employees to find new work, including work-from-home positions. If all of this sounds a little foreign to you, we’ve got you covered. Here are a few tips on how Facebook’s new-and-improved job listings work.

What is Facebook jobs?

There are a few ways to find job listings via Facebook. The easiest option is by using the Jobs dashboard, which you can find at facebook.com/jobs. You can also use Explore on mobile, the Jobs icon under Marketplace, or the Jobs tab on a specific business’ page.

If you see something interesting, Facebook will automatically add the information listed on your Facebook profile to your application. You can also subscribe to receive notifications about jobs similar to the ones you like, and use Facebook Messenger to speak with the business directly — which makes coordinating an interview time easy and fast.

Facebook first introduced United States and Canada job listings to its site in 2017 — but if you’re looking for a fancy out-of-country job, now’s your chance. Facebook is expanding its listings to cover more than 40 countries around the globe.

Job-Hunting Basics for Facebook

If you do decide to use Facebook Jobs, then you should groom your profile with a fine-tooth comb — which means deleting embarrassing photos and removing any seemingly offensive posts. If you couldn’t care less what your potential employers think, post away; just remember that prospective employees may be able to see it all (so those photos of last week’s girls’ night may not help you land the job of your dreams).

If you’d rather keep your crazy post-sip-and-paint photos, just change your privacy settings. Each and every Facebook post has a tiny icon located next to the post time. The “friends” icon, which looks like two little people, indicates that only your friends can see that post. If you don’t see this icon, but see a tiny globe icon instead, it means your post is set to public — meaning that everyone on Facebook can view it. To change that, click on the icon and switch it to “friends only.” (If you need a more detailed explanation of how to do this, visit Facebook.com/help. )

If you’re really in the market for a new job, Facebook may be the quickest way to find one. After all, just think about how many people are using the site for networking opportunities. With more than one billion users, your future employer is bound to be in there somewhere.
