Key Details From Prince William and Kate Middleton’s 2021 Royal Christmas Card

Tags:

Royal fans went wild recently when Prince William and Kate Middleton released their 2021 Christmas card for fans around the world. Alongside their very grown-up looking children Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, six, and Prince Louis, three, the Cambridge family looked as picture perfect as ever.

“Delighted to share a new image of the family, which features on this year’s Christmas card,” the royal couple’s social media accounts captioned the snap. However, upon further inspection there are some special details that we totally missed!

A Special Location

It doesn’t take a geography expert to notice that the backdrop to the 2021 Christmas card didn’t look like their British back garden. A statement from Kensington Palace read: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are pleased to share a new photograph of their family. The photograph, which features on Their Royal Highnesses’ Christmas card this year, shows The Duke and Duchess with their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis in Jordan earlier this year.”

Jordan is a country close to Kate’s heart — as a child, she and her family lived in the Middle Eastern country for almost three years when her father Michael Middleton worked for British Airways in Amman. Prince William visited Jordan in 2018 and stood in the exact spot where his wife, sister-in-law Pippa and father-in-law Michael posed for a photo back in the 1980s.

We’ve seen that necklace before!

While we adore Kate’s khaki frock that she wore for the special snap, eagle-eyed royal fans recognized her delicate pendant necklace too. According to fan account @2iikatehe, Kate wore a Dallah (a traditional Arabic coffee pot) pendant necklace that dates back years before she married William. The account added that she was pictured wearing it at the 2005 Gatcombe Park Festival of British Evening horse trials when she and her now husband were dating. Aww!

George Loves His Army Print

British royal family members have strong ties to the military and it seems Prince George is destined to follow in his relatives’ footsteps if his fashion is anything to go by. In the card, the eldest Cambridge child wears a camouflage T-shirt that’s very reminiscent of the one he wore in his official seventh birthday photos taken last year.

George may end up taking after his father Prince William and become a pilot in the Royal Air Force. While chatting with a group of British soldiers in 2018, the royal dad reportedly said: “I told George this morning we were going to see the pilots today. And he said, ‘If you see a helicopter can you take a picture?'”

Matching Shoes for the Siblings

Kate is known for her sustainable style and penchant for re-wearing clothes, and it’s a trait she’s passed down to her children as well. Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis can all be seen wearing matching navy and white sneakers that have been worn on numerous outings. We first saw Prince George wearing the style in 2018 when he went to watch his dad play polo and again in Princess Charlotte’s fourth birthday portraits.

Mom and Dad’s Rare Moment of PDA

Royal fans’ hearts warmed when they spotted a sweet moment between the royal couple in the official photograph. As the pair smile for the camera, William’s hand rests gently on his wife’s thigh and vice versa.

It’s not often that we see the royals engage in public displays of affection. But, since 2021 marked 10 years of wedded bliss for the couple, it made sense to show a little in their Christmas card. In April when the two celebrated their anniversary, William and Kate shared an adorable home video of their family playing in the countryside together.

“Thank you to everyone for the kind messages on our wedding anniversary. We are enormously grateful for the 10 years of support we have received in our lives as a family. W & C,” they wrote at the time on social media.
