This Simple Settings Tweak Will Make Your Phone Speaker Louder Without Any Extra Gadgets

Tags:

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to turn the volume up on my phone speaker, only to realize it’s already at the maximum level. Luckily, I recently learned there’s a totally easy trick to make things louder that’s been right under my nose this whole time (and probably yours, too).

There’s no need to invest in extra gadgets or external speakers. For iPhone users like me, it’s as simple as tweaking a setting we usually ignore.

Start by opening up the Settings app, then scroll down to Music (which might be a long scroll — mine was buried in the sixth section of apps). Once you’ve opened that section, scroll down to EQ and select the Late Night option.

Here’s what it looks like on my phone:

Once you have Late Night checked, you should hear a louder sound output the next time you hit play on a song, podcast, or even use your speaker phone to chat.

I tested it out by toggling the Late Night setting off and on while listening to music and talking to my mom on speaker phone mode. It’s not a super dramatic difference — you aren’t magically rewiring the hardware, after all. But it is a noticeable boost that will help you feel a lot less frustrated when you’ve maxed out your volume from now on.

Although I can’t personally test out any methods on Android phones, there is a handy WikiHow article with some helpful suggestions. Similar to iPhones, they suggest looking into your settings, opening the Audio Profiles, and making sure the sliders are all the way up in Sounds & Notifications.

The article also recommends making sure there’s no dust or debris clogging up the speaker area of your phone, which is a good tip no matter what type of device you use.

And if you still find yourself wanting to amplify the sound of your phone a bit more, you can always try the hack of grabbing a mug or bowl from the cupboard and placing your phone inside, speaker-side down. This way, the sound bounces off the walls and makes it louder.

We bet combining both tricks will solve all your phone speaker volume woes!
